CIO recently ran a survey, the State of the CIO 2020, which polled 679 heads of IT and 250 line-of-business IT leaders. One of the questions in the survey was what areas they were having difficulty finding appropriate skills. It was broken down into the following:

42% Cyber
31% Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation
20% Legacy Technologies
16% Cloud Services/Integration
16% Internet of things (IoT)
13% DevOPs/Agile Processes
11% Cloud Architecture

The above skills are those that often require additional certifications beyond an Associate or Bachelors Degree and because you can’t teach or learn these skills overnight, those that highly focus on the above skills are also those that are sought after by hiring managers.
