Every technology leader knows you need to manage for today and plan for tomorrow. Therefore, you’ll need to know what skills your team needs to meet the future demands of your organization. While I don’t have a crystal ball, I do have the next best thing: Computerworld's Forecast 2016.

The Forecast surveys hundreds of IT leaders to determine which skills will be in high demand this year. According to their results, here are the top 10 skills IT leaders crave, and the percentage planning to hire personnel with these skills this year:

Architecture: 42%
Business Intelligence: 34%
Application Development: 40%
Technical Support: 30%
Project Management: 39%
Database Administration: 25%
Big Data: 36%
Security/Governance: 25%
Cloud/Saas: 25%
Web Development: 24%

The study also reports that IT decision-makers plan to increase their current technology investment levels by 4.7%. Executives agreed that 2016 will see organizations move more applications, even business-critical applications, into the cloud. This year should be another good one for technology professionals to make great contributions for operational excellence and growth.
