Artificial Intelligence has been the talk of the town for years, and now, many of the predictions around this concept are becoming a reality. AI is no longer a buzz term explaining the future of our technology – In fact, it is already apart of the workplace and has begun reshaping positions, removing human employees from various job functions and increasing efficiencies across industries. However, before our society panics over unemployment threats, it is important to see and understand the ways Artificial Intelligence is structuring departments, and, in some ways, creating even more jobs in the years to come.

Like many new technology introductions, processes are altered in both positive and negative ways. The implementation of Artificial Intelligence has the goal of taking over repetitive tasks and creating productivities in these areas – We have already seen this shift take place in the retail / consumer world with automated check out payment systems, as well as kiosks used for imputing food orders in restaurants, and this trend will only continue expanding into various industries including manufacturing and corporate office culture. While these robotic systems are making a name for themselves, they are not being used to necessarily deplete jobs in our country – Rather, take ownership of tasks, so employees can use their efforts in other meaningful ways.

While, yes, positions will be restructured due to Artificial Intelligence, let us not overlook the numerous careers that will be created in the near future – For example: AI services are being applied internally for hiring and training purposes to find new talent and train current employees, likely increasing companies’ retention rates. Additionally, the application of these automated aids is ultimately benefiting two parties – The employee(s) AI is servicing, as well the technology providers proposing these services to employers. Those on the vendor side need human talent to install the technology, as well as train and educate workforces on how to use it.

Seeing AI as a way to utilize current and future employees in creative, strategic and problem-solving ways with help place talent in more significant positions is key. After all, although monotonous responsibilities are being automated, real-life contact is becoming increasingly important to consumers, and organizations that provide an experience for its customers are those that are excelling.
