Python is one of the oldest, yet fastest growing programming languages, and is widely used around the globe. With technology lingo welcoming itself into a larger part of day-to-day conversation, Python has recently become the talk of the town. However, for those of us that are not proficient in this industry, why is this programming language becoming so popular?

What is Python?
First, let’s start with the basics – What is a ‘programming language’? Programming language is made up of a specific vocabulary and set of grammatical rules used for directing a computer or device to perform unique tasks. There are low-level languages, such as machine language, that are written using natural language elements, making it easier for the computer to directly execute the instructions. However, Python is written in a high-level language, using complex aspects like dynamic variables, arithmetic expressions and others, with a focus on usability over optimal program efficiency. While Python seems like the much more complicated program option, it actually has many pros over the other programming languages, making it the preferred method by developers – And, these three words explain why:

Over the years, Python has been constantly ranked the easiest programming language to absorb – A huge motivator for a new learner. Python conveys steps in a highly readable format with an uncluttered visual layout, making it easily digestible for the coder. Additionally, the syntax, or arrangement of words to create the programming language, is much cleaner – It uses English keywords versus punctuation as other programs do, aiming to be simple and consistent.

A major perk that programmers find with Python is the quality of its source code. You can accomplish a lot with only a few lines of code versus writing lengthy and complex loops. The syntax of Python allows the user to build custom applications, as well as express addition notions without having to write longer code – Creating efficiency.

With popularity comes community – Because this trend is only amplifying, Python users have become a majority of the developer community. Python is used in such a wide number of applications, such as AI, video games and productivity tools, making the user community vast and knowledgeable on the program.
